Q: Some people have called McLuhan an American
who happened to be born in Canada and taught in
Canada. Was there anything quintessentially
Canadian about him? What do you think he felt
towards Canada, and, of course, the United
States?
A: I see Marshall as a scholar on the world stage
who happened to be here. I think his mind was
caught up in world currents of intellectual activity
